Proud of my girl

Sophie has always had a knack for art. She loves to draw, paint, color, etc. and will sit for hours upon hours letting her imagination run wild. Sometimes she will take requests and draw something that you want her to. Other times, she will draw something that happened to her during the day. Often times, it's just whatever strikes her fancy.

We have embraced that and have encouraged her in doing so. *it also looks as if Emme is following in her footsteps because she too is drawing VERY well and coloring for hours right along with Sophie. Her specialty seems to be pics of the family and especially Mingus, the dog.*

Anyway - back to Sophie...

At her school, they have art once a week. Her art teacher mentioned to Adam that she wanted her to work on a piece - with the theme of "motion" - and possibly submit it in to an art exhibit to be held at the local museum here in town. It's the Private school art show or something of the sort. So, she did. She came up with 2 pictures. One was a circus theme with a juggler and a lion jumping through a hoop. It also has girls on the trapeze and a girl riding a unicorn - upside down, no less. The other was just a group girls in motion. One was twisting in the air, the other was just jumping up in the air, etc. and submitted those to the art teacher. She was the only kindergartner out of the two classes that she asked to submit anything. Right there is enough to be proud. But ... it doesn't end there.

Not only was she the youngest kid to submit anything - the only kid in kindergarten! She WON FIRST PLACE!! Out of the entire elementary school - grades K-6th - she WON!! First place!! We are SO very proud of her and she is just beside herself with pride.

After school today, we went over to the Masur Museum for possibly the first of many showings. Our little artist.
