Cake and crashers

Okay - the "cake story" - *deep breath* I'll try to make it as short as possible! HA! You know what that means....

We'll start on the Tuesday before Sophie's party. I drove around to several bakeries in town - local and chain grocery stores - to find an Incredibles cake. That's what Sophie wanted so that's what I was going to get. Every place I went either didn't have one or had one that was rather boyish to me. The figurine on it was of Mr. Incredible holding up a piece of pavement and the little boy, Dash running around him. If they had a girl on there at any place - it would've been fine but it just seemed boyish to me. Sophie REALLY likes the daughter, Violet. So, one day on my way to get Emme - I decided to stop at another grocery store that is on the way. Now, I happen to know the girl that is the manager of the bakery there. We grew up together in the same church when we were young and she also happens to be my EX-SIL's best friend. So - I've known her for a long time.

Anyway, I asked her if that was the only Incredibles cake they had and how I really didn't want that figurine and such. She assured me that it was NO PROBLEM! She said all I had to do was go on the internet and find a pic I wanted and to print it out and they could scan it on a cake! She said I could even put my own text on there and so that's what I did! I found a pic of the entire family and put at the top -- Happy 7th Birthday, Sophie! You're Incredible!. I was soooo excited!! I took it to her the NEXT day - Wednesday! While I'm there, I ALSO order a Dora cake for Olivia (for Sunday). It's really cute - it had Dora and Boots on there being chased by Swiper. CUTE! Now, Tammy (the manager) wasn't there but I left my number and told the girl that if there was ANY PROBLEM - to give me a call. She assured me there would be no problem. So, that was done!

Okay, fast forward to Saturday - - the day of Sophie's party. It was rather stressful for me. The kids were wired, Adam got called off to go help his mom (she locked herself out of her car!) when he was supposed to be cleaning the backyard and so I was here - alone - with 3 crazy kids and trying to clean up and get things ready for a party. Ugh.

SO - since he was leaving, I had him run the errands that I was going to run. #1 - go by Coffee Bean (where they sell pre-made casseroles in addition to coffees, etc) and pick up 2 casseroles for Sunday.
#2 - go by grocery store and pick up various ingredients needed to finish appetizers and such.
#3 - go by *different* grocery store and pick up TWO cakes that I ordered. One for Sophie and the other for Olivia.
All of this, of course AFTER he dealt with his mom. He left around 10:00 am and didn't RETURN until 12:30 pm!!! The party was scheduled to start at 2:00 pm.
So, he comes in and hands me the groceries and such and I get started on the goodies for the adults. Do that for about 30 minutes and then walk over to look at the cakes. I open up the first one - The Incredibles cake .......

and .....

It's NOT the cake I ordered!!!!

I look at Adam and say "what the hell?!?!?" He says that the girl (Tammy the girl I know) said that the scanner wouldn't work properly so they just did the one that they had.

You mean the one I SPECIFICALLY DID NOT WANT?!!??!

SO - I take a deep breath and try to understand that these things happen and go over and open Olivia's cake.

Yep.

You guessed it.

IT'S NOT THE CAKE I ORDERED, EITHER!!!!!

There is no figurine anywhere to be found on it. They have *drawn* in icing over in the left corner a Dora and the majority of the cake says "Happy Birthday, Olivia!" ... again, NOT the cake I ordered!!

I mean, WHAT THE HELL!?!?? It's ONE HOUR before the party is to start and here I sit with two cakes that we just paid FIFTY DOLLARS for and neither of them is the cake that I ordered!?!?

So - I try to gather up what little composure I have and I CALL the girl at the bakery! She answers the phone and I tell her who I am and say hello. I tell her that I wanted to ask her about these cakes and she says "What cakes?"

*Lord, help me please ... *

I say "My husband was just in there and picked up two cakes - an Incredibles cake and a Dora cake" ....

she says, "oh yeah, what about them??" ....

oh. my. God.

I go into how I'm VERY upset because I just looked at two cakes that I did not order. One I SPECIFICALLY said I DID NOT want!! I reminded her that I was ASSURED that it would/could be done. I told her that I left my number and TOLD them to call me if there were ANY problem! Now, I've paid fifty dollars for two cakes that I didn't want.

She said, "well, there's really not much we can do about it now..." .....

uh, NO SHIT, Sherlock!

I said that NO, there WASN'T anything that could be done because I had a party starting in an hour. I STRESSED GREATLY to her that a *little* bit of communication would've been nice!! All she had to do was CALL and let me know that the scanner wasn't working!! I asked about the Dora cake - what was up with that one. She explained that someone came in THE NIGHT BEFORE and ordered a Dora cake and they made one for her and used the LAST figurine!

Nevermind that I had ordered mine 4 days prior, evidently. Also, this isn't the ONLY store in town?!!? Hell, there are about 6 of them here in town! They couldn't get a freaking figurine from another store?!?! For that matter, they couldn't scan a pic at another store!?!? I can think of TWO of them that you can get to in about 10 minutes from that particular store.

So - I again, GREATLY STRESSED to her how VERY unhappy and upset I was by this and so she offered to give us our money back. I told her that my husband would be there after the party to get our money.

I was so upset. Of course, Sophie didn't mind it but it was just the PRINCIPLE, you know?? What would've been the harm in her at least calling and saying that there was a problem and that they were sorry but she could make these two other cakes ...etc....etc. What would I have said?!? OKAY! I understand - go ahead, you know?!?! UGH!!!! I wouldn't have been totally SHOCKED and BLINDSIDED by opening up two cakes that I didn't want nor order, you know?

So, after the party - Adam went and got the money and she told him a COMPLETLY different story about the Dora cake and the scanner!!
He said that she ended it by "I really hope she orders from us again!" ... Adam said he just kinda laughed.

CRAZY PERSON!!!!

Speaking of crazy people ....

During Sophie's party, we actually had a "crasher".
I opened the door and recognized one little girl but there was another girl with her (about 2-3 years older) and 2 women that I have never met. The mom of the little girl I recognized (she is in Sophie's class) introduced herself and then they all walked in! The other woman walked in and introduced herself and her daughter and said "We're with them. We are party crashers!. Ha! Ha! Ha!"

Uhhhhhh...yeah. Real freaking funny.

THE NERVE!!! Oh, and you know that damn kid played and ate cake and got a goody bag at the end. EVERYTHING that the other -*invited!*- kids did.
Also, I was told that the mom saddled herself up to the kitchen table and ravenously enjoyed the food I had out for the adults.

Come on in! It's the Ryland buffet!

Nice.

And I wonder why birthdays stress me out.

You should see the slightly embarassed look on James' face when he hands me the phone on one of these occasions. You can just hear his brain saying "Well, now you are gonna get it because we have tried to be polite letting you talk to me, and now you've been difficult and you have to talk to Anne"
